RE: we ain't small people

We arent the smallest of people either and our bunk ends support us just fine. In fact weve often had myself, my husband, our 11yr old, our 7yr old and our 2yr old all together on one end due to a leak (I really need that leak fixed!)and had no problems. That was a lot of weight too about 650 pounds!

1997 Geo Tracker

Ok here we go again with another TV question! Has or does anyone tow with a Geo Tracker? We have a 1997 Geo Tracker and were wondering how it would work as a TV for out 12 foot popup. The van we were looking into fell through (was a piece of CRAP!) which leaves just a smaller car to tow with. The Tracker has a tad more room and 4wd. Any opinions? Thanks!

RE: Anyone tow with a 1999 Dodge Caravan?

Thanks everyone very much. I dont know much about the van yet other than its a 3.8l and thats it. Ill find out more on Friday when I go to look at it myself since only my Husband has seen it so far. Degisme we never tow with a full tank. We actually dont use the sink other than for washing dishes. We drink bottled water. And we always (well usually) camp where we have hookups so no need to tow with the tank full. Thanks again everyone!

RE: Have you ever camped with any pet other than a dog?

Wow so I guess Im not crazy LOL! We have a lot of pets so we could never take them all. My bunny would probably be a great camper. He loves to chill in my ur lap and hes great in the car. Again like the cats though I would be afraid he would get away. We also have rats (yes pet rats) and weve traveled cross country from CT to NV and back with them. They r wonderful travelers it was just a matter of finding hotels that didnt scream like small children when they heard we had rats with us LOL! A chicken wins it though! I would never have thought of traveling with a chicken but hey more power to ya! Im all for loving an animal for the animal they r and if that means camping with a chicken I say go for it! We stay at MillBridge Campground in PA a few times a year. Last year someone there had a couple ferrets with them just sitting on their laps and walking on leashes. I saw a few people give them really odd looks but I was proud of the people for not taking those looks and letting them effect their trip. They just continued to do what they were doing and had a nice trip with their ferrets! Thanks for sharing everyone!

Anyone tow with a 1999 Dodge Caravan?

We r getting rid of our Sedona (have to save money!) and have the chance to buy a 1999 Dodge Caravan with only 80,000 miles. Its in REALLY good shape. Anyone have experience towing with one?

RE: Sewing a seam?

I know exactly what its from. Its always been a little saggy on that one seam which makes it hold water. Even when we fold it up dry for some reason when we open it that seam is damp! Can u buy a new tent dor a bed end or would it even be worth it?

Sewing a seam?

I realize this probably isnt going to be easy but how can I fix a tear about 3 inches long right on a seam? Its in the corner of one of the beds on the top where the pole slides up. I REALLY dont want to take it off and have it sewn because the quote I got was a couple hundred dollars and honestly I dont have that right now. My plan was just use a large needle and some really thick thread and sew it by hand and then:
A) Gorilla Glue it
B) Bees wax it
C) Electrical tape it
Granted it wont be pretty but Ill live with that. All I care is that it doesnt leak. The plan is to get one more year out of it and then go up to a new PU or a hard side next season. Any ideas?
NOTE: Yes Im the one who asked about towing with a Malibu! My friends decided they didnt want to chance it. I printed out all the answers I got here from u all and also the research I did other places online and told them it was their call. After reading it all they decided to tent camp until they can afford a bigger vehicle. So now Im keeping the camper and hoping to get this hole fixed in time for Memorial Day!
Thanks everyone!

Have you ever camped with any pet other than a dog?

Im very curious about who is crazy enough to do this other than me LOL! Weve camped with:
Our dog - Sheltie who LOVES camping
Hermit crabs - weird I know but we bought them along the way
Hamster - Didnt have a sitter
Weve never taken our cats only because they havent ever been outside in their lives and Im afraid they will get away since we camp in a popup. Anyone else want to share?

Email?

Can someone tell me how I change my email address here on the site? I no longer have access to my old account (changed new providers) so I cant get post notifications. Thanks very much.

RE: 2 year old sleeping in Niagra bunk end?

My body blocks our 2 year old! Seriously it does. I sleep on the outside and she sleeps on the inside with the 7 year old closest to the window end. Husband on the other bunk and 11 year old on the table bed. Yeah no room for romance there LOL!
The poster who put the Walmart link to the bed rail (sorry Im really bad with names) thats a good idea but is the weight of the mattress enough to hold it in place? That would work for me next year when shes 3 I think if I just put her and the 7 year old together if the mattress is heavy enough!

RE: I like camping in my pup because......

1) I can bring my dog and not have to worry about her being on the beds and clothes
2) It actually feels like Im still camping in a tent without all the sand from ur feet in bed with u
3) I dont have to go in a campground bathroom to brush my teeth
4) Fewer bugs! <--- very important
5) If it rains I dont have to go running to the car
6) Heat and A/C! <--- very important when ur a Yankee and dont like to sweat to death in the day but live somewhere cold where u often need heat at night!
7) And most importantly it didnt cost more than my HOUSE! LOL!

RE: Towing with a 1997 Chevy Malibu??? No way right?

Wow ok I guess I started quite the debate here! Bottom line is I dont know if I feel safe selling it to them. As I said they have kids and the kids will be in the backseat while they are towing. Granted they wont go far. Probably Ohio from Connecticut if even that far but Ill admit it still worries me. Weve towed it with a Kia Sedona with no problem and also with a Rav4 before we got the Sedona as far as PA or ME. I just dont know what to do. The camper company seems to think its ok to do but what about the insurance? If they get in a wreck while towing like this then what? Thats something else to think about. I would feel terrible if something went wrong. Honestly I dont need the money bad enough to take that risk.

RE: Towing with a 1997 Chevy Malibu??? No way right?

Ok I called my local camper sales/repair place. They have a hitch that they say will make it so it can be done. With new brakes and the hitch installed would be about $500. My friends dont want to pay that much but atleast we now know what it would take!

RE: Towing with a 1997 Chevy Malibu??? No way right?

Oh boy now Im even more confused than ever! The problem with this is these people are my friends. They have children who will be riding in the Malibu while its towing. They dont know if its safe either which is the problem. I can tell you the car isnt a V6 its a 4cyl so it doesnt have that extra power. Does that info help any?
EDIT TO ADD: The popup weighs 1500lbs

Exactly! Thank u very much. I refuse to sell a camper to someone who I know doesnt have a vehicle that can tow it. Thats all I needed to hear!

Towing with a 1997 Chevy Malibu??? No way right?

Ok this question is stupid and I know it is but I want to make sure first! I have a 1997 12 foot Mustang Palomino fold up camper that Im thinking of selling to a friend of mine. Well they have a 1997 Chevy Malibu and they want to tow it with that. This just isnt possible is it? I looked online and this car can only tow 1,000 pounds. They seem to think the extra weight will be fine. Can I get some opinions here? Thanks very much.
